The California Work & Health Survey was undertaken to achieve three main goals:
- Expand the scope to increase the number of jobs inquired, including secondary jobs and jobs worked in the past month.
- Gather important details related to emergent working conditions and potential misclassification of workers via independent contractor status, or the contracting out of work. Examples of details include tax filing status, control over work, retirement & health benefits, etc.
- Document the prevalence and impact of alternative and contingent employment, especially for marginalized workers. Impacts of possible interest include physical, mental, and economic wellbeing.
Projects Using CWHS Data:
- Impact of Emergent Working Conditions on the Health of Working Age Californians
- An Investigation of Factors Driving Health Disparities for Marginalized Workers in California
